When the sun crests the acacia, the many gather in the open - grazing, laughing, certain of the friends beside them. Their only strength is one another. Their only hope is to tell friend from fang before the light fails.

The sky bleeds red and the herd's laughter thins. Hunters wear familiar faces - patient, coordinated, already counting who will not see the dawn. By dusk, every smile hides a question: whose teeth are those?

Chaos
Then the dark closes over everything. Some at the table answer to neither herd nor pack - they play a game all their own, and the savanna bends to whoever is still standing when the long night ends. Trust no one. Least of all the quiet ones.
